Message It could be faint oil smoke from oil that has leaked passed the valve cover gaskets, run down the back/side of the motor, and dripped on something hot.

My car did the same thing, and it was worse if it was hot and/or I ran it hard. Also, on my way to work there is an intersection that has a stop sign on an uphill grade right before my parking lot - it was always worse the longer I had to sit there. My intake valve cover gaskets were leaking out the back and that angle caused the oil to drip on the turbo. In my case the smoke was always right in front of the passenger side, between the firewall and engine. But it wasn't very much, so the smoke could easily be regarding as steam.

You can take one of those little diagnostic mirrors and look at the back of your heads to see if there is oil leaking.
